GB/T 713.6-2023: Steel Plates and Strips for Pressure Equipment – Part 6: Quenched and Tempered High Strength Steel

It was published on August 6, 2023, and became effective on March 1, 2024, superseding GB/T 713-2014. This standard applies to quenched and tempered high-strength steel plates and strips for pressure equipment operating at temperatures ≥-20°C, with plate thickness 3–250 mm and strip thickness ≤25.4 mm, specifically designed for high-pressure vessels and heavy-duty pipelines.

Key technical specifications include:
- Grades Q550R and Q690R delivered in quenched and tempered condition (quenching + tempering), with minimum yield strength ≥550 MPa and tensile strength ≥690 MPa;
- Strict chemical controls (e.g., carbon ≤0.20%, manganese 1.00–1.60%);
- Mandatory 100% ultrasonic testing (NB/T 47013.3) and impact testing (GB/T 229).
The standard introduces grade Q690R with optimized alloying for enhanced strength-toughness balance.

This standard addresses critical gaps in high-strength pressure equipment applications, significantly improving safety in high-pressure environments. Integrated with GB/T 713.1–5, it establishes a unified technical framework, enabling compliance with global standards (ASME, EN 10028) and strengthening China’s competitive position in high-end steel markets for critical industrial components.
