GB/T 713.4-2023: Steel Plate, Sheet and Strip for Pressure Equipment – Part 4: Nickel-alloy Steel with Specified Low-Temperature Properties

It was published on August 6, 2023, and became effective on March 1, 2024, superseding GB/T 713-2014. This standard applies to nickel alloy steel plates and strips for pressure equipment operating at temperatures not lower than -196°C, with plate thickness ranging from 3mm to 250mm and strip thickness ≤25.4mm, specifically designed for cryogenic applications such as LNG storage tanks and ultra-low-temperature pipelines.

Key technical requirements include:
- Specified low-temperature performance for grades like 06Ni9DR, mandating Charpy impact energy (KV2) ≥47J at -196°C;
- Strict chemical composition controls (e.g., nickel 8.5–9.5%, carbon ≤0.08%, sulfur ≤0.010%);
- Delivery condition limited to normalized+tempered;
- Mandatory 100% ultrasonic testing (NB/T 47013.3) and low-temperature impact testing (GB/T 229).

The standard introduces grade 06Ni9DR with optimized alloying to enhance toughness at -196°C. It addresses critical cryogenic safety gaps, significantly improving reliability in extreme environments. Integrated with GB/T 713.1–3, it forms a comprehensive technical framework for pressure equipment steels, enabling compliance with global standards (ASME, EN 10028) and strengthening China’s competitive position in high-end steel markets worldwide.
