GB/T 713.5-2023 Steel Plate, Sheet and Strip for Pressure Equipment – Part 5: High Manganese Steel with Specified Low-Temperature Properties
It was published on August 6, 2023, and became effective on March 1, 2024, superseding GB/T 713-2014. This standard applies to high-manganese steel plates and strips for pressure equipment operating at temperatures not lower than -40°C, with plate thickness ranging from 3mm to 250mm and strip thickness ≤25.4mm, specifically designed for cryogenic pressure vessels, pipelines, and storage systems.
Key technical requirements include:
- Specified low-temperature performance for grades like Mn15, mandating Charpy impact energy (KV2) ≥47J at -40°C;
- Strict chemical composition controls (e.g., manganese 12.0–15.0%, carbon ≤0.20%, sulfur ≤0.020%);
- Delivery condition limited to normalized+tempered;
- Mandatory 100% ultrasonic testing (NB/T 47013.3) and low-temperature impact testing (GB/T 229).
The standard introduces grade Mn15 with optimized alloying for enhanced toughness at -40°C. It addresses critical gaps in low-temperature high-manganese steel applications, significantly improving safety in extreme environments. Integrated with GB/T 713.1–4, it establishes a comprehensive technical framework for pressure equipment steels, enabling compliance with global standards (ASME, EN 10028) and strengthening China’s competitive edge in high-end steel markets worldwide.
